Ekibin Creek had its first bushcare working bee for 2019 on January 27. Since it was so dry we spent some time watering plants at the eastern end of the para grass patch. This bit is the first stage in our small bird habitat restoration project. Later this year we'll start at the western end of the 400m² patch, with a School's Tree Day activity. It will probably take a few years before we meet in the middle! Hand watering is a necessary process to help establish native plants, especially if the weather is dry and before they become self-sufficient. We draw water in buckets from the creek (which unusually, is still flowing). As part of our regeneration policy, once they had a good wet season, we tend to leave plants to their own devices (except perhaps to control weeds).
